Till receipt rolls, ballpoint pen. 180 cm long x 60 cm wide x approx 110 cm high. 2020.
Kate : "My ‘Spendthrift’ series examines the shame of overspending and debt in a consumerist society. ‘Spendthrift’ is an accretion of many small redacted transactions, each receipt carefully and completely covered with ballpoint pen in a bid to hide a multitude of sins. ‘Spendthrift : One Kilometre Drawing’ is a kilometre of till receipt paper entirely covered in ballpoint pen. One year in the making, it is a memorial to pointless labour and reckless over-spending. With these works I hope to embody the feeling of greasy, sickening panic one feels when faced with financial crisis and the very real emotional cost of consumption. My current works are focussed on the symptoms and behaviours of bipolar mania (reckless over-spending being one). My practice is primarily process-based sculpture and installation art. I completed my MFA in 2018 at Bath Spa University, UK."
