Hand embroidery on white polycotton. 97 cm x 83 cm. 2019
Nikkita : "With Brexit (the exit of Britain/ UK from the European Union) looming, my work questions the impact it will have on Ireland and the UK, whilst looking at what might possibly happen : Economic disaster, conflict over the Irish border, a divided Britain, a dark and gloomy future post-Brexit ?
This piece is questioning what will be the aftermath of Brexit ? Will it be the break up of the United Kingdom (the union of England, North of Ireland, Scotland and Wales) ?
I embroidered each country in a different colour, referencing a UK & Ireland road map and have reversed stitched the four Parliaments, to play with the idea of which way is right - forward or backwards, again to relate to the uncertainty of Brexit and what will be the outcome."
