Hand embroidery on white cotton calico. 30 cm x 30 cm. 2019
Nikkita : "This was inspired by a Monument bordering the counties Fermanagh and Cavan which is ‘dedicated to the men and women who travelled from every corner of Ireland to join in the struggle to keep the border roads open and to defy the efforts of the crown [i.e. British] forces to keep them closed.’
After the road blocks were built during a weekday (by the British forces in the 1960s and 70s), Irish men and women then came together on a Sunday and dug up these steel barriers. That left a bump in the road which is still visible on some of the country border roads today."
