Nikki” : ”Aontacht means Unity. This work is part of my series called ’32 - 26+6 – 1’. The number 32 refers to the total number of Counties (local administrative areas) in the island of Ireland. This consists of 6 Counties in the north (now part of the UK) and 26 Counties in Éire, the country that makes up the rest of Ireland. Most people in Ireland (and many other people around the world) regard the 6 Counties in the north as ‘Occupied Territory’, currently occupied by the British. The number 1 refers to the hope that the current divided island will one day return to being one united country, as it was prior to British imperial domination, military occupation, colonisation and division. When added together, the size of this series represents the area of the occupied territories divided by 6 and changed from km into cm.”
